For those who work at Quickate we are called the Taters. We work as a "typist" as our job description say so but known as "Transcriptionist" in the Philippine society. Basically in the US transcriptionist are either called audio typist or transcriber.
A transcriptionist makes an audio file into a transcript. May it be medical or general (business, legal, voicemail, and research). This is the new trend today amongs India and the Philippines. But I give more credit to our "Kapwa Pinoy" because we are yet better off with our English Prowess as compared to our Asia country. They sure know that language but as to English grammar I would say our teachers did a good job on teaching us the proper use of it.
Before going into another topic. I am trying to impart to you how being a Quicktate typist has helped me a lot. My income from being a Tater has helped my family in living a decent and a bit of a good life. Why? Because last year we ventured into a business and got bankrupt and in a very bad debt. Not a cent was left in our pocket and I gave birth to a premature son (6 months) which was eventually taken by us in a instant. I did not verge into Anger nor question God about our fate, but instead I prayed. We are able to move on with the help or our relatives and friends. By now I have this online Gig which is a big help in paying off our debts and be able to eat a decent meal 5x day including snacks.
What is this online Gig? Well, you can get hired in oDesk has a freelancer and do all sorts of online job which pay in dollars. As in $$$. You can do some blog, article, content, and spinning write up, and transcription. You can do virtual assistant job, call center job, data entry, programming, and a lot more. You just need to have the guts to apply for a many job, get interviewed, bid for the hour pay, and get started.
Amongst the online job that pay a hefty $1,000 up is Programming and Customer Service (call center). Yes, you don't need to be in a call center company but just do it at home like they do but a much more rewarding income. I have learned that these companies does huge amounts from call center representative and how much does a representative take home pay? Is just 50% of what the company is being paid. But these companies have invested in equipments etc. And its up to you how to count out there profit?
You can also try out Elance, Blogvertise, and Frelancer, cloud crowd, and homebased pal for additional online income. You can also do pay-per-click, survey, marketing, and Ad affliates. You can get money just by working online.
As a Tater you need to be accurate in spelling, punctuation, and accuracy of what was said. These are voicemails that need to be transcribe. The jobsite is open 24/7 and its up to you on what time you want to work. I would suggest work during US business hours. It means staying up while others are sleeping. Remember its a 12hour time difference between US and Phil.
On the first month you would experienced numbness of fingers, on and off headaches, hot "temperedness" for your body is still adjusting to your new routine. Once you get your first pay of $$. You want to aim more. This job I may say is for those who know how to listen and a fast typist. The pay is by word count. The more you type in the more $$. The $0.0025 is 1/4 of cent but if your a good typist this grows a thousand fold. My first month pay was around P10,000. It's been 6 months since I started which was October of 2009. Do I earn more or do I earn less from that? I may say more when I spend a lot of sleepless night. Less when I am sick. But you can average of up to $20 a day by staying online for about 14 hours and the workload is back to back. But there are days that there's not much job.
What is the advantage of this? It's tax free. There's no income tax deduction unless you opted to pay for it voluntarily. But its wiser if you contribute a part of it for SSS and Philhealth.
Where do we get our salary or pay? It is given to us every 10 and 25th of the month through Paypal. This I would discuss on my next blog. You need to have an Excel spreadsheet for tracking down your word count.
I am more than willing to help those who want to venture into this. As it was said we need to spread the bounty that we have for it will go back to us in multi-folds.Let us enjoy and be one us!

The On Demand Global Workforce - oDesk
Hi, this is Nicole from Rent a Coder. Rentacoder provides access to programming, writing, illustration, even data entry jobs. (You can get a sense of the broad scope of work available here: http://www.rentacoder.com/RentACoder/SoftwareCoders/BrowseWork.asp).
ReplyDeleteI'd like to point out a few issues with using services like Elance and Freelancer (GetAFreelancer) since those issues could influence your satisfaction and earnings.
Fees:
Workers on Elance cannot place more than 10 bids a month unless they pay a subscription fee ($10/month for 20, $20/month for 40 or $40/month for 60). It also charges workers a monthly subscription fee of $10/month - $40/month just to show test results on their profiles.
Rent a Coder does not have any subscription fees or any other types of hidden fees. Our project fees are as low as 6% and we guarantee all types of unlimited work.
Escrow/Guarantee of Payment:
With pay-for-time type projects, neither Elance nor Freelancer allows you to verify your time on pay-for-time projects by punching in and out of a real-time system, and cannot conclusively prove to the buyer that you were working. As a result they do not guarantee payment, and if the buyer does not wish to pay you, you may end up with no money.
Rent a Coder allows you to verify your time spent on a project by punching in and out of a real-time card application which records your desktop and webcam. The end result is indisputable proof that you've worked and deserve payment.
In addition, Elance does not offer escrowing on pay-for-time projects so payment is not guaranteed on these types of jobs. But Rent a Coder protects your money with escrowing on all job types.
Arbitration:
Elance charges $66.66 or $133.33 for each arbitration, which may make it too expensive to be a legitimate option on your project. In addition, a buyer intent on abusing the system can stall the start of arbitration on Elance for 21 business days and during this period your money is not available to you. You also won't find any detailed rules on how Elance arbitrators make their decisions.
Freelancer limits arbitration to projects with milestone payments of more than $30. And its mandatory pre-arbitration processes allow an abusive buyer to stall the start of arbitration (and prevent you from accessing your money) for weeks.
At Rentacoder, we offer arbitration on all projects free of charge and we test your deliverables to make sure they meet requirements so that you can get paid. We also prevent abusive buyers from stalling the start of arbitration. As a result, 45% of our arbitrations are completed under a day. 75% under a week. We additionally publicize the detailed rules of how our arbitrators make their decisions.
There are other differences as well. I invite everyone to compare the 7 major services through this link to learn even more: http://www.rentacoder.com/RentACoder/DotNet/misc/CompetitorInformation/WhyRentACoder_ForSellers.aspx
If you have any questions, please let me know. You can also call in to talk to a facilitator 7 days a week, or email us (see http://www.rentacoder.com/RentACoder/misc/Feedback.asp).

ReplyDeleteYou're very welcome, Cessielou.
ReplyDeleteHi Miss Cessielou, how was your experience with quicktate? I am currently working as a staff nurse here in UAE, and I would like to make the most of my time in my off days by applying as a medical transcriber. Is the pay good? and what things should I look out for if I am going to apply for this kind of job. Thanks!
